At Blue Jay Therapy, I work with many people who quietly carry the weight of doing too much, feeling too much, and holding it all together.
I understand it deeply—because I’ve been there too. After a recent house move and launching a new business, I found myself caught in a tide of emotions: anxiety, irritation, fear, excitement. It all felt like too much. And for a moment, I just wanted to retreat from the world.
Overwhelm can creep in quietly or hit all at once. It’s something many of us experience, yet we often feel we should be able to “handle it.”
But what if we took a gentler approach?

Recognising the Early Signs
For me, it starts with a headache, a tense neck, a flutter in my stomach, and a wave of exhaustion. The more I ignore it, the harder it becomes to think clearly, take action, or feel motivated.
Learning to recognise these early signs is powerful. It’s not weakness—it’s wisdom. A tool like a Feelings Wheel can help name what you're feeling, and once you have that awareness, you can begin to respond with care.
Press Pause, With Compassion
Many of us are taught to push through—just keep going. But ignoring our needs doesn’t make us stronger. It wears us down.
I’ve found that when I allow myself to pause, check in, and ask, “What do I really need right now?”—I begin to feel more grounded. Listening to your needs is not selfish. It’s essential.
Prioritise What Matters Most
When you’re overwhelmed, everything feels urgent. But the truth is, not everything has to be done today. Try writing out your to-do list and numbering tasks in order of importance. Break big jobs into smaller steps.
You might be surprised how much calmer things feel when they’re no longer swirling in your head.
Recharging is Not a Luxury—It’s a Need
What helps you feel restored? Nature? Connection? Rest?
For me, spending time with loved ones, walking outdoors, or asking for support reminds me that I don’t have to carry everything alone.
And neither do you.
Feeling Overwhelmed? You're Not Alone
Therapy can offer a safe space to explore what’s going on beneath the surface, find clarity, and reconnect with yourself. It’s not about being fixed—it’s about being heard, supported, and gently guided through what feels heavy.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you.
